Dolores Kitchener

I’ve been a local to Little Hadham for 2 years now and so I joined the Bishops Stortford Art Society shortly afterwards, to meet other local artists and join in with some activities. The monthly meetings have proved to be really interesting with professional artists and demonstrators sharing their techniques and ways of working as well as having practical evenings and summer au plein air dates.

I still teach drawing and watercolour in my previous local area of Enfield with 4 sessions of classes, and accept commissions.

Generally, I just love to sketch and paint. My main interest is with urban sketching. 10 years ago I joined London Urban Sketchers for monthly meet ups in town. It has become a growing trend across the world and a fabulous way of sharing our local urban environs on social media. (#usklondon #urbansketchers.. my hashtag #dodokitch)

I work mainly in ink pen and colour in watercolour sketchbooks.  My favourite surface to work on at the moment is Khadi paper, an Indian cotton rag paper which I find such a gorgeous surface to work on for all my subject matter. On my free days I love to set off to a local village and get going.

I often work in a concertina type book and have themed sets for holidays in the UK, Ireland and abroad. Working from photos is fine but there’s nothing quite like capturing the true atmosphere of a real environment. Portraits of people and animals are also great fun and of interest to me… but all in all, art is a great passion and pastime. So perhaps now is a good opportunity for you to join a local art group to discover your skills and talents.
