Exhibition Standards
The Bishop’s Stortford Art Society expects all members to present their work to an acceptable standard when exhibiting with the Society at exhibitions and at all other Society events.
Labelling
- Framed pictures require an adhesive label stating picture title, medium used, the artist’s name and the price on the reverse.
- Unframed works should have a label on the front stating title of work, medium used and the price.
The artist’s details should be on the reverse.
Framed Works
- Clip frames are not permitted.
- Condition of the frame, glass and mount must be of sound structure and good in appearance.
- Brown paper tape must be used to neatly seal the back of the frame. No other tape is permitted.
- D-rings to be securely fixed.
- Hanging cord should be used not wire or string, and be tight and secure.
- Photo / Shop bought frames must have the stand and fixings removed and the back board turned over.

Unframed Canvases
(Considered as a hanging picture)
- D-rings to be securely fixed.
- Hanging cord to be tight and secure.
- Edges of the canvas to be finished by either continuation of the main work or solid colour.
- Should adhesive labels not stick to the reverse, it is acceptable to write on the bottom of the canvas, on the reverse with the artists and picture details.
Non-hanging works
- Paper based pictures must be mounted on presentable stiff card and with a cut mount.
- All works must be fully enclosed in a clear cellophane wrapper and sealed, cling film and plastic bags are not permitted.
- Labels to be secured to the top left corner with sellotape.
- An adhesive label should be on the reverse with the artist’s name.

Greetings cards for sale must be neatly presented in a cellophane wrap with the price on the front and the artists name clearly displayed on the reverse.
